Tata Motors plans to launch new Multi-axle Luxury bus next year
Tata Motors, India’s largest Commercial Vehicle manufacturer has disclosed plans of launching a new luxury bus range named – Magna. The magna will be a multi-axle luxury bus with a fibre roof instead of metal and will adhere to all the latest safety norms, along with certain other specifications such as a larger wheel base. The Company will be pricing this model between Rs 45-50 lacs. The Magna will be serving the purpose of Intercity transportation.
Tata Motors will be manufacturing this bus at its Dharwad (Karnataka) plant which has the capacity of producing 12000-13000 units per year. This bus range is expected to hit the market by first half of the next fiscal.
With Magna, Tata Motors is planning to re-enter the Premium bus segment which is dominated by European players like Volvo and Mercedes-Benz, as its earlier attempt with Divo was not much successful. The Company will introduce the segment in left-hand drive export markets in West Asia before trying its luck in India. Tata Motors is expecting to get a boost in sales, as refreshed bus body building code will be introduced this April 2015, which will be eliminating the local players/garages as the code will have strict regulations for dimensions, build quality, safety and comfort features.
